Van driver William Millard blamed his cargo of jellied eels on his speeding at St Nicholas at Wade. Carrying over a ton of eels for delivery in Margate and Ramsgate, he was worried they would go bad as the sun melted the ice on them. Nevertheless, Thanet Magistrates imposed a fine of £2, and endorsed Millard’s licence.
