After an absence of 6 years, the last of the St Lawrence College pupils returned to Ramsgate. Laden with luggage, their train was fittingly hauled by SR Schools Class engine “St Lawrence” (No. 934), which had been rebuilt after a direct hit in May 1941. The boys were joined on their journey from Victoria by Tom Douglass, who was the driver in charge of “St Lawrence” until he retired, and chatted with them about the ins and outs of being a train driver.
