The Whitstable Company of the N.F.S. rescued 85-years-old licensee, Mr. John B Foreman as fire took hold in the Wall Tavern in Middle Wall. The brigade arrived within 3 minutes and had the blaze extinguished within an hour. Mr Foreman was taken to hospital suffering from shock, and although damaged, it was hoped the pub would reopen the next week.
