Alexander Birrell (48), a commercial traveller from Essex, entered Mr Grigg’s barber shop in Queen-street Ramsgate, and after an hour, took a miniature bottle of whiskey, mixed a glass of potassium cyanide and died from poisoning. He had earlier obtained the poison from Hamilton’s chemist in Tankerton, stating it was for photographic use.
