MP William Wayland formally opened Herne Bay’s new post office. Sir William was shown around the light, spacious building, featuring a new automatic telephone exchange for 1,300 lines, state of the art teleprinters handling up to 160 messages an hour, and a stamp franking machine dealing with 400 letters a minute.
