The millionth phone line to be installed in the South-East has come into use in Canterbury, to benefit 13 elderly people living in Maynard and Cotton’s Hospital almshouses. The coinbox, Canterbury 51287, was installed free of charge and is now available for the old folk for emergency calls, making appointments with doctors, contacting relatives and other daily needs. John Thompson, director of the South Eastern Telecommunications Region, presented a commemorative scroll to Miss P. M. Hooker, chairman of the almshouses trustees.
