Grossly exagerated reports were circulating about Canterbury surgeon Mr Greasley as he recovered from flu. It has been stated that he was suffering from brain fever, whereas he has had nothing of the kind; he has died least three times during the week, and the authors of the false rumours have even gone so far as to allege that the tolling of St. George’s bell on Monday was for Mr. Greasley, and to name Mr. Wiltshier as having received orders for the funeral.
