Ramsgate, Margate and Broadstairs fire brigades attended a fire at Ramsgate telephone exchange at about 9pm. More than 2,600 phones were put out of action by extensive damage to cabling and switches. Engineers worked overnight to make alternative arrangements for high priority customers.
