Thought to be the oldest living ex-Marine as he approached 90, Jack Larkin was presented with a silver tankard and a free pint every day for the rest of his life by Whitbread Fremlins at his lifetime local, the White Horse, Chilham. He had sunk his first pint there when he was 14, and still puts away 2 pints of mild every morning, with a little more at weekends. Apart from his 12 years in the Marines, Jack has been a farm worker in Chilham, retiring at 73.
