Hop farmers Messrs. James Day & Sons of Staplehurst reported that hop drying was speeded up by 75% by the use of a 5hp motor driving a 4′ fan, forcing hot air through the hops. An oil furnace has replaced the coal fire, and electric motors have replaced steam for driving air compressors and oil pump.
