Miss Emily Clarke of St Peter’s, who died in July aged 80, directed her executors to burn, or otherwise destroy, as soon as may be after her death, all the letters addressed to her by her late aunt Mary Ann Cross (“George Eliot”) which they may find amongst her effects. The duty of destroying the letters of the famous authoress falls to a nephew who lives at Binbrook, Lincolnshire.
