Five bells from All Saints, Boughton Aluph have been sold for scrap for £300 to pay for repairs. However, Kent archaeologists say the bells, dating from 1500, were priceless, with the 40″ “Great Bell Gabriel” worth £1,000 alone. Permission for the sale was granted by Canterbury Diocese – the Canterbury Archaeological Society are now trying to save them from their fate before they are melted down. Sadly, they were too late.
