Before a meeting of Dover Town Council started, the Mayor sadly announced the death of Councillor Percy Kennett at 10.00am that morning at his home in Smeeth. After suitable tributes, the meeting commenced. After half an hour, the packed council chamber fell silent, as Councillor Kennett took his seat, having missed his bus. It seems he was the victim of a cruel joke after the prankster had called the Town Clerk with the news. Councillor Kennett said “I think I know who was responsible, but I cannot prove it, so the matter must rest.”
