At a three minute meeting of Canterbury City Council, it was decided to retain the 4 storey block planned for the Longmarket redevelopment. Ald. Dawton felt that the block would be a distraction from the Cathedral Tower, although the city architect’s department said the building would maintain the high line of existing buildings in St. George’s-st, so architecturally the street would not be broken. The resolution to scrap the block was defeated by 9-5 votes.
