While driving to visit friends at Westgate on Friday evening last a Croydon motorist had an amazing escape from death in the Sturry Road, Canterbury. It appears that Cecil R. Land, of Barclay’s Bank Chambers, North End, Croydon, swerving to avoid a collision, struck a lamp standard. The front of the car ran up the post, which then snapped. The car made a half-loop in the air and fell upside down on to the stump of the post, by which the back part of it was impaled. The car was completely wrecked. Land suffered severe cuts on the left wrist and right knee.
