Shortly after 11am, a fire occurred at the Railway Hotel, Faversham. The barman was drawing off some whiskey from a cask in the cellar, when the flame of the candle he was holding ignited the vapour causing an explosion. The flaming spirit was soon running all over the cellar. The flooring of the room above had to be pulled up so water could be poured on the flames. Damage worth £60 was done.
