1975 Over 120 telephonists across the Canterbury area, stretching from Folkstone, Medway to Maidstone, are to be made redundant. This is largely due to the introduction of Subsciber Trunk Dialling, which obliviates the need for operators to set up long distance calls. There has also been a slight reduction in calling rate, as subscribers tighten their belts anid rising costs.
