Robert Runcie was enthroned as the 102nd Archbishop of Canterbury. During WWII, he had been a tank commander, and earned the Military Cross for two acts of bravery putting his life on the line. An occasional visitor to the Bell & Crown, landlord Charlie Passey would tell him risque jokes, and named his dog after him.
