With the opening of the pit baths at Snowdown Colliery, the Kent coalfield becomes the only one to have such facilities at each of its collieries. The new baths cost £21,000, paid by the Miners’ Welfare Committee, and are among the most modern in the country. There are 104 cubicles fitted with a shower and hot and cold water, 4,000 lockers for clothing, facilities for cleaning boots, a first aid room and provision for drinking water.
