Some Maidstone firemen are testing a new type of helmet for use throughout the country. Experts have been trying for some time to produce a helmet giving more protection than those in general use. It must resist impact, penetration, heat and water, and resist electric shock. It must also be light and comfortable to wear for long periods. After much research, prototypes have been produced, and as Kent has one of the largest brigades in England, helmets have been issued for operational tests and other trials.
