Just after 3.30pm, a Belgian Air Force jet on a navigational training flight hurtled into the A20 at Dover-hill, Folkestone, killing both pilots. Fortunately the road was unusually quiet, and there were no ground casualties. Emergency services quenched the flames, although the bodies of the airmen could not be recovered until the next day due to the explosive charges fitted to the ejector seats. It is thought the pilot got lost in the fog across the Channel.
