Mr J. Baker White, M.P. for Canterbury, told a meeting of women “This country ought to fill the shops with goods which the housewife can buy. She might have an orgy of spending and buying household goods, and say to her husband, ‘I have just spent ┬úl2. Now go and earn me some more.’ And the husband would go and work more overtime, and so production would rise.”
