The foreman of the G.P.O. Engineering Department at Canterbury, Richard Owne, whilst returning his home at Harbledown, was killed by a 4-ton lorry of Messrs. Brett and Son, Canterbury, which was returning from Garlinge. The accident occurred at 6.45 p.m. on the Sturry Road. The vehicle bumped, and when the driver the lorry got down to see what it was he found the deceased dead in the road, with a bicycle beside him. It was raining hard, and the driver said he had seen nothing of the deceased previously. A verdict of accidental death was returned at the inquest, and the driver was exonerated from blame.
