Mr. F. H. Austen, of 52, Church-street, St. Peter’s, became the first to receive television signals in Thanet, after broadcasting had started the previous day from the Television Studio, Long Acre, London. He had built his own apparatus, which resembles a box with two square apertures, one of which is used to control a revolving disc, and the other operating a revolving screen upon which the moving pictures are portrayed.
