Heroic efforts by East Kent firemen and local soldiers saved two-thirds of the 300 year old Barton flour mill in Sturry Road, Canterbury as flames rose 150ft into the air. The fire was caused by a stray spark in the machine room. Four received minor injuries from falling masonry, and two mill cats were saved.
