A munitions train was stopped at Sturry with two trucks on fire. Despite the efforts of Canterbury fire brigade, the pyrotechnic display continued, lighting the surrounding area in a glow. Services were held up for 6 hours, with many passengers preferring to stay to watch the fireworks rather than return to London.
