A Whitstable whelk is finding fame at Brighton — because it is left-handed! In the eight years he has been at the Montreal Arms, licensee Mr. John Rousseau has served customers with about 500,000 whelks. Now he’s found his first left-handed whelk in the weekly batch sent to him from Whitstable. The whelk shell with the left-hand thread is now on display in the bar of Mr. Rousseau’s pub, where he specialises in selling shellfish. Later, it is to be presented to a Brighton museum.
