A Dover man named Thomas Pepper, of about 50 years of age, started to perform a curious pedestrian feat. He left Dover at 7 o’clock, undertaking to walk to Canterbury and back, carrying with him a bricklayers, labourer’s hod containing twelve stock bricks, each weighing five pounds. The time in which the feat was to be completed, it is stated, was twelve hours. He arrived in Canterbury at 2.30 p.m.
